Winter Skin Care Tips

December 7, 2011

Winter has finally arrived and it can be hard to remember how to take care of your skin.  Winter is harsh on your skin because of the wind, the cold, and the fact that it is still sunny out!  We have a few tips to help you survive this winter season.

First step is to moisturize.  Depending on how dry your skin gets, getting an oil-based moisturizer may be necessary.  You should moisturize at least twice a day to keep skin well hydrated.  If you have a little bottle you might even want to carry it around with you.

Secondly you should always wear sunscreen.  An easy way to remember this is to wear a moisturizer with sunscreen in it.  If you can remember applying an actual sunscreen with at least 30 SPF is recommended, and it should be broad spectrum.  Most sunscreens come in small enough sizes to fit your purse.  It is important to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day as to avoid sun damage.

Thirdly avoid an harsh skin treatments – especially those containing chemicals.  With all the natural elements that are already fighting your skin, adding chemicals such as masks or peels can irritate the skin even more.  Use mild cleansers instead.

Remember that even though it is not hot out, you can still get sun damage as long as the sun is out.  If you plan on taking on skiing vacations you need to be extra careful about putting on that sunscreen!
